Insurance appraisals
Know what your jewelry is worth
Our GIA Graduate Gemologist appraises your jewelry right here in the store and prepares a photographed report at retail replacement value for your insurance company.

How it works
What happens during an appraisal
1
Cleaned and polished
With your OK, we clean and polish each piece so we can examine and photograph the stones properly.
2
Examined and measured
Our GIA Graduate Gemologist measures and grades every diamond and gemstone, and records the metal, weight, and construction.
3
Photographed
We include a clear photograph of the piece so your insurer can identify it.
4
Valued at retail replacement
The report gives the cost to replace your piece today with one of the same kind and quality.
The report
Every report includes
Everything your insurance company will ask for, in one document.
- Your name and address
- The completion date and a report number
- Measurements and grades for each diamond and gemstone
- A photograph of the piece
- A full description of the piece
- Retail replacement value
- Our store name, phone number, and appraiser details

When to appraise
When you buy, when you inherit, and every few years
Insurers want a current appraisal for a new ring, and most ask for an update every three to five years as gold and diamond prices change. It's also smart to appraise inherited and estate jewelry before you insure it or divide it among family.
If you're deciding whether to keep a piece or sell it, we can make you an offer during the same visit. Our buyers have more than 70 years of combined experience.

How long does an appraisal take?
Most single pieces are ready in a few business days. If you have certificates or receipts, bring them along. They help us work faster, and we'll reference them in the report.
Will my insurance company accept the report?
Yes. A GIA Graduate Gemologist prepares the report, and it includes the photograph, measurements, description, and retail replacement value that insurers ask for.
Is the appraisal what you'd pay me for the piece?
No. An insurance appraisal states what it would cost to replace the piece at retail. A buying offer is based on the resale market, so it's lower. We're happy to walk you through both.
Do you appraise watches and gemstone jewelry?
Yes. We appraise diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, pearls, gold and platinum jewelry, and fine watches here in the store.
