Questions and answers
Everything people ask us most, grouped by topic. If your question isn't here, call or stop by and ask.

Can I see my ring before it's made?
Yes. The designer shows your setting in 3D as you build it. Once you send the design, our team models it in CAD or carves it in wax, and you approve a rendering before anything is cast.
Do you sell natural and lab-grown diamonds?
We sell both. Our GIA Graduate Gemologist finds stones that match what you want and checks each certificate against the stone itself. We'll quote natural and lab-grown side by side so you can compare.
How long does a custom engagement ring take?
Most rings are finished two to three weeks after you approve the design. Casting, setting, and finishing all happen in our Clearwater workshop.
Can I use a diamond I already own?
Of course. Choose "I have my own stone" in the designer, or bring it to the showroom and we'll design around it.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome six days a week. For an engagement ring we suggest booking a time so we can have the right stones ready when you arrive.
Which grading reports do you accept?
We work with GIA and AGS reports for natural diamonds, and IGI or GIA for lab-grown. We check every report against the stone before we offer it.
Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. It's made of the same carbon crystal as a natural diamond and looks the same. The differences are where it came from, how rare it is, and the price.
Can you find a specific stone for me?
Yes. Tell us the shape, carat, color, clarity, and budget in the designer or at your appointment. Our gemologist will find a few options for you to compare in person.
Do you buy loose diamonds?
We buy loose diamonds of one carat and up, along with diamond jewelry in any condition. Walk in any day we're open for a free quote.
Should my band match my engagement ring's metal?
It's a good idea. Two different metals worn together will slowly wear each other down, and the harder one wins. If you love the mixed look, we'll talk you through which pairings hold up best.
Will a straight band sit flush against my engagement ring?
It depends on how low the center stone sits. Bring your ring in and we'll check. If there's a gap, a curved or contoured band will close it.
Can eternity bands be resized?
Usually not, because there's no plain metal to cut. That's why we size eternity bands carefully in the showroom before we order or make one.
Can you solder my engagement ring and band together?
Yes. Soldering keeps the two rings aligned and stops them from rubbing. It's done at our bench and can be undone later if you need it.
Can you engrave inside the band?
Yes. Add a date, initials, or a few words. Ask at your fitting.
What necklace length should I choose?
Sixteen inches sits at the base of the neck, and 18 inches falls at or just below the collarbone. That's the length most pendants are made for. Twenty to 24 inches is better for layering, and men usually wear 20 to 24. We'll measure and let you try lengths in the showroom.
Can I buy a pendant and a chain separately?
Yes. Many people choose the pendant first and then match a chain to its weight and bail. A heavier pendant needs a sturdier chain so it doesn't twist or wear through.
Can you shorten or lengthen a chain?
Usually, yes. Our master jeweler can shorten most chains, add an extender, or replace a clasp at the bench, and simple jobs are often done the same day.
Can you make a pendant from my old jewelry?
Yes. Bring the pieces in and we'll look at the gold and the stones with you. Our team models the new design in CAD or wax, and nothing is made until you approve it.
How do I keep a diamond pendant clean?
Soak it in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap, brush gently behind the stone with a soft toothbrush, and rinse. Stop by any time and we'll clean it and check the setting for you.
What does total carat weight mean for studs?
It's the weight of both diamonds together. A one carat total pair is two stones of about half a carat each.
Which earring backs are most secure?
Screw backs are the most secure and a good choice for larger studs. Friction backs are easiest to put on. La Pousse and other locking backs sit in between. We can change the backs on a pair you already own.
Can you match a single earring I've lost?
Often, yes. Bring the one you have and our gemologist will look for a diamond to match it, or we'll make a pair from scratch.
Are your earrings hypoallergenic?
Platinum and 18 karat gold are the best choices for sensitive ears. We can also swap a post for platinum or a higher karat gold.
How do I find my bracelet size?
Measure your wrist just above the bone and add about half an inch to an inch, depending on how loose you like it. Most women wear 7 inches and most men 8 to 8.5. We'll size it for you in the showroom.
Can you shorten a tennis bracelet?
Yes. We can remove links and rebuild the clasp at the bench. Keep the stones we take out, since they can be added back later.
Will a bangle fit over my hand?
Solid bangles have to slide over the hand, so we measure around the widest part of your knuckles. Hinged bangles and cuffs open, which makes them easier to fit.
Can you repair a broken clasp or chain?
Usually. Most simple repairs are done the same day, and inspections and quotes are free.
Do you buy watches that don't run?
Yes. We buy Rolex in any condition, and gold and luxury watches whether they're running or not. Bring it in for a free offer.
Do I need the box and papers to sell a watch?
No, but they help. Original papers, the box, extra links, and service records usually raise the offer, so bring whatever you have.
How long does a battery change take?
Most batteries are done while you wait.
Do you service watches in house?
Yes. Batteries, bracelet sizing, crystals, polishing, overhauls, and water testing are done here. When a brand or a repair needs the maker's own service center, we send it there and handle everything for you.
Can you size a watch bracelet?
Yes, usually while you wait. We'll remove or add links and keep the extras for you.
How much does a repair cost?
We quote every repair after a free inspection, so you'll know the price before any work begins. Simple jobs like a watch battery or tightening a stone cost very little. We quote restorations one at a time.
How long will my repair take?
Most simple repairs are finished the same day, and we change watch batteries while you wait. Resizing, new shanks, and restorations can take a few days. We'll give you a date when we quote.
Can you resize any ring?
Most rings can go up or down in size. Eternity bands and some tension or tungsten rings can't be resized. We'll let you know at the inspection and suggest other options.
Do you replace watch batteries?
Yes, while you wait. We also replace bands and crystals.
How often should jewelry be professionally cleaned?
Every six months for pieces you wear daily, like an engagement ring or studs.
Can every stone be cleaned the same way?
No. Diamonds, sapphires, and rubies take a deep clean, while emeralds, opals, and pearls need a gentle hand. We choose the method for each piece.
How long does an appraisal take?
Most single pieces are ready in a few business days. If you have certificates or receipts, bring them along. They help us work faster, and we'll reference them in the report.
Will my insurance company accept the report?
Yes. A GIA Graduate Gemologist prepares the report, and it includes the photograph, measurements, description, and retail replacement value that insurers ask for.
Is the appraisal what you'd pay me for the piece?
No. An insurance appraisal states what it would cost to replace the piece at retail. A buying offer is based on the resale market, so it's lower. We're happy to walk you through both.
Do you appraise watches and gemstone jewelry?
Yes. We appraise diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, pearls, gold and platinum jewelry, and fine watches here in the store.
Do I need an appointment to sell?
No. Walk in any time we're open. You only need to book if you'd like a house call or you're bringing in a large collection.
How do you decide what to pay?
We weigh your metal, test its purity, and price it against that day's market. Our gemologist grades diamonds and gemstones and values them on the resale market. Signed pieces and fine watches are valued as the pieces they are, beyond the weight of the gold.
Do you buy broken jewelry?
Yes. We buy broken chains, single earrings, bent rings, and dental gold for the precious metal they contain.
Will you buy my Rolex if it doesn't run?
Yes. We buy Rolex watches in any condition, running or not, with or without the box and papers.
How do I get paid?
We pay you on the spot as soon as you accept an offer.
